Giovanny Vega is a Puerto Rican journalist and newsroom innovation leader specializing in the integration of artificial intelligence in journalism. He serves as Editorial Innovation & AI Manager at El Vocero de Puerto Rico, where he leads the newsroom’s efforts to integrate AI into editorial workflows, develop AI-powered tools for journalists, and explore new storytelling formats that strengthen public-interest reporting.
Vega has participated in international programs focused on AI in journalism, including the Kiplinger Fellowship in Journalism at Ohio University, the AI Newsroom Catalyst program by WAN-IFRA, and the AI Adoption Lab and Executive Program in News Innovation and Leadership at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.
Vega has more than a decade of experience covering politics, government, health and sports in Puerto Rico. He previously served as sports editor at El Vocero, where he led the newsroom’s coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games from Paris. His journalism has received national awards from the Overseas Press Club of Puerto Rico (OPC) and the Puerto Rico Journalists Association (ASPPRO) for outstanding work in narrative journalism, special coverage planning and breaking news.
Holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and a master’s degree in Sports Management from the Real Madrid Graduate School and Universidad Europea.
