Jeff Belzil (he/him/his)

International Women Media Foundation



Jeff Belzil is the International Women Media Foundation’s security director and physical security expert.
For the past 11 years, he has worked to support the safety of journalists worldwide. He has served as a security advisor in high-risk areas across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Ukraine. He served in the Canadian Army for over 10 years and deployed on over three combat tours in Kandahar, Afghanistan. He received Canada’s Star of Military Valor, the second-highest award for military valor.

He supports investigative journalists and newsrooms with their safety needs. As a security expert, he has advised and trained over 5,000 journalists and newsrooms worldwide on personal safety, violent protests, and counter-surveillance. His areas of expertise are Latin America and the US.
