Knight Professor in Digital Media Strategy

Jeremy Gilbert is a professor at Northwestern University’s Medill School and the Knight Chair in Digital Media Strategy. His work and teaching focus on content and emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence. He oversees the Knight Lab and explores the intersection of technology and media, examining how new tools and techniques will affect the creation, consumption and distribution of media. He also founded the Data-Driven Reporting Project, the Next Gen News project and is co-directing the Generative Artificial Intelligence for Newsrooms project. He has a courtesy appointment with Northwestern’s Farley Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and works regularly with the Buffett Institute for Global Affairs. Before assuming the Knight Chair, Gilbert was The Washington Post's Director of Strategic Initiatives, where he led an award-winning team that transformed The Post into an international, digital-first news organization. Gilbert’s past roles included developing a digital strategy for National Geographic. Gilbert led The Poynter Institute in rethinking and redesigning its industry-leading website and served as an art director for The Tampa Bay Times and The News-Press.
