Kirstin Garriss is an award-winning political journalist based in Washington, DC. Currently, she's the Public Relations and Communications Director at URL Collective, the nonprofit arm of URL Media, a network of 40+ independent newsrooms serving Black, Brown, and immigrant communities nationwide. In this role, she provides direct support to partner outlets by amplifying their stories through strategic placement in local, regional, and national media outlets while helping them build sustainable PR and communications functions. Kirstin is also the creator of Here’s the Deal with KG, a weekly newsletter breaking down national news headlines into smart, engaging explainers. She has worked in newsrooms in Washington, DC, Maryland, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Kirstin also has national bylines in The Guardian and other national publications. She's a member of Online News Association (ONA), National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and Washington Association of Black Journalists (WABJ).
