Ghazala Irshad is the Style and Standards Editor at The Marshall Project, the Pulitzer Prize–winning nonprofit investigative journalism outlet covering the U.S. criminal justice system. She leads the organization’s copy editing, develops editorial standards guidelines, and trains reporters and editors on best practices for accurate, ethical reporting and writing.
Ghazala also contributes to "Investigate This!," The Marshall Project’s initiative to share open-access datasets, reporting tools, and guidance to help local newsrooms pursue criminal justice investigations with impact.
Ghazala's career spans international reporting, teaching, social media strategy, and editorial leadership. She has reported from Egypt on protests and abuses of power during the Arab Spring and previously produced an international documentary-style travel show highlighting social issues. She currently serves on the board of Borderless Magazine, a nonprofit news outlet covering immigration and immigrant communities in Chicago, and is a fellow in Poynter and AAJA’s executive leadership programs.
