Deputy Director of Pro Bono Partnerships
ProJourn/Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press
Christina Piaia is Deputy Director of Pro Bono Partnerships at ProJourn, a program of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. She leads the legal pro bono program, oversees legal intakes and placement of matters to support newsgathering rights and business operations for news organizations, journalists, and documentary filmmakers. Together with the ProJourn team, Christina develops initiatives to grow the bench of media attorneys and deepen relationships with law firms and legal clinics to narrow the gap between journalists with stories to tell and attorneys who support them.
Prior to ProJourn, Christina served as a trial attorney with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and supervising attorney at the NYC Commission on Human Rights, working extensively on access to human and civil rights with a focus on community outreach and education. Before the Commission, Christina spent three years as an international human rights attorney and as a journalist for The Associated Press. As a passionate public interest attorney, Christina serves as pro bono counsel for several nonprofits and on the board of the Chris Hondros Fund.
