Candice Fortman is a community builder and a champion for equitable, high-impact local
journalism. As the founding Executive Director of Outlier Media, she helped grow the
Detroit-based service newsroom into a nationally recognized model for community-centered
reporting and accountability. A Detroit native, she brings experience across commercial radio,
public media, nonprofit leadership, and audience strategy. A 2025 and 2021 alumna of the John S. Knight
Journalism Fellowship at Stanford University, she now works as a strategist, speaker,
consultant, and coach, focusing on strengthening the future of local news and the communities
it serves.
